How To Fix Problems With Your Stove, Range Or Oven

Probably the most widely used appliances are the oven, stove, and range. It can also be frustrating if these kitchen appliances breakdown. While you can try to fix these appliances on your own, you should know the risks of doing so. Below are the most common problems that you could encounter when owning these kitchen appliances.

Heating Issues

Gas and electric stove, range and oven technicians

In case you have encountered heating issues with your stove, oven, or range, you need to check the electronic board, temperature sensor, control thermostat, bake element, or fuses. Inspect to find out the cause of the problem. Check whether the bake circuit is also causing the problem. This task will require you to check live voltage which should only be done by certified professionals.

Fails to Start

There are several reasons why your stove, range, or oven won’t start. One of the reasons is that the broil element could be malfunctioning. Another one is the machine’s internal fuse might have blown out. The device has shorted in case of a blown fuse. Here are the other causes:

  • Bake element is faulty
  • Temperature sensor
  • Surface burner element
  • Infinite switch
  • Electronic control board
  • Safety valve
  • Oven burner igniter

It would be best to get a certified technician to fix the problem as the diagnosing and repairing these parts is very difficult.

The Element Does Not Heat

There could be issues in the surface burner’s receptacle, switch, or terminal block that’s why the element is not heating up. There are several wires in the surface burner that are responsible of producing the heat. Use a multimeter to check the wires’ condition. This task will require high voltage tests so make sure to hire a certified home appliance repair specialist when considering doing an oven repair.

Timer not Advancing

A faulty control board is the culprit if the timer is not advancing. Most of today’s ovens control the functions via an electronic board. You can also determine the problem with the error codes displayed. If you can see any error code being displayed, the you need to check the element’s power. You might need to do a live voltage check in cases where there is not power.

Problem with Igniter

The safety valves of the oven are being managed by the electronic control boards. Gas will not be released until the oven safety valve is powered. Make sure that the board and circuits are being powered. This problem should be left out to professional technicians as it requires performing checks of boards, circuits, and relays.

Too Hot

Problems with very high temperatures could be caused by faulty oven control thermostat and temperature sensor. The oven’s temperature is monitored by the temperature sensor. The sensor then signals and makes the decision whether to turn the element on or off depending on the temperature. The sensor won’t be able to control the temperature if it’s not working properly, making the oven too hot. The sensor’s condition can be checked using a multimeter.

Does Not Program

If your oven is not properly programming then you need to check the electronic control board or membrane switch’s condition. The keypad or the membrane switch can be found on the control board. There are some models that have a separate switch. A replacement is needed in case the keypad is broken.

Door Does Not Open After Cleaning Cycle

A faulty assembly or door switch could be causing this problem. Make sure to unplug the power cable before you start checking the condition of the assembly or switch. You might need to check the oven temperature if you didn’t find a problem with these parts. Checking the sensor’s condition should only be done by an expert as this is an advance procedure.
